The Gradus Quartet, originally based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is an international collaboration between acclaimed Canadian guitarist Adam Smale, Russian bass virtuoso Denis Shebukhov, one of New England's premiere saxophonists Nick Mainella and Midwestern drummer Ryan Andrews.

While the group toured with a large repertoire ranging from jazz standards to Nirvana and Radiohead, the group decided to focus on original material for their debut album, 'Nice Driveway'. The entire album was recorded in a single afternoon with almost all of the tracks being first or second takes. Each tune showcases a different facet of the group's diverse abilities. From the rolling triplet feel of "Night Drive" to the Spanish-tinged "Jazzenco" to the heartfelt ballad "She Knows Me", the quartet showcases their collective and individual mastery.

This is an album for those wanting a rewarding instrumental jazz experience whether it be for background use or intensive listening. The brilliant compositions are brought to life by the group's unique energy that could only result from such an international outing.
